Kevin's Mazda MX-5

SEATTLE, WA - I had the pleasure of working with Kevin yet again on another car from his collection. The MX-5 was one of this first sports car loves and this new ND in Soul Red Metallic is a true heart throb. In the dawning era of driverless vehicles and “smart” everything, basic things like tactile steering and a fast manual soft top (I consider this a feature) feel honest and gimmick free.
I borrowed the MX-5 the night before, and was up at 5am to catch sunrise over Lake Washington near Seward Park. The GT-S option including an LSD, Bilstein shocks, and front strut tower braces felt great cruising through the empty arboretum without being uncomfortable on the rough, older Seattle roads. The clutch was light and shifting was soft but crisp. Oftentimes, “race car” and “sports car” monikers get treated as though they are interchangeable. There’s a place for fun but everyday-livable cars, and the MX-5 is the definition of this niche.
