Oregon Trail Rally 2017

Portland/Dufur, OR - This was my first year experiencing the 3 days of dirt in late April. I drove down from Seattle to Portland with a few friends to check out the Friday super special at Portland International Raceway. The SS on day one is for the fans. We got to walk around the teams’ pit areas and check out the driver’s meeting before stages started. It’s a great opportunity to get up close to cars from all classes. The SS stages run late into the evening, and then the teams pack it up and need to drive about 100 miles east to Central Oregon for Saturday morning’s stages.
Saturday and Sunday are dusty affairs and clouds can be seen for miles along the winding farm and service roads. Sunday ended with a hill climb at the historic Maryhill highway. Teams race up from the Columbia River into Washington on tarmac. The image below is a large composite of Maryhill taken from the new Highway 97.
