Olympus Rally 2018

Olympus Rally 2018

I've been going to the Oregon Trail Rally event of the American Rally Association (ARA) for years, but this was my first time attending the Olympus Rally near Shelton, Washington. Sara and I headed down from Seattle for the weekend to check out the spectator points. As always, the viewing locations provide a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the cars and their dust clouds.

Although the event is smaller than Oregon Trail Rally's 3 days of racing, Olympus featured an excellent Super Special format stage in an old logging yard. This short course placed a large spectator zone in the middle of a U-shaped layout, allowing visibility in all directions from multiple small hills. This course was visited on both Saturday and Sunday, with the Sunday stage ran in reverse with a few changes.

One of my favorite parts of this rally, was the setting. The narrow courses run through thick evergreen forests, iconic of the Pacific Northwest. After years of enjoying OTR in the Central Oregon desert, Olympus' vibrant green and yellow backdrops were exciting to shoot against.
