Mukilteo with the FDs

Mukilteo with the FDs

This was probably the hardest combination of paints and harsh sunlight I've ever had the pleasure of shooting. This actually started out as a failed plan to meet in downtown Seattle due to road construction traffic. Instead, Tim and Anthony met me in Mukilteo, WA and found some awesome back roads. Both builds kept their rotary engines and turbos, but took subtly different directions in the styling category.

Tim's RHD version appears fairly reserved at a distance. No wings, no crazy camber. On closer inspection, his pearl white paint, OEM style carbon hood, and wheel selection show off his attention to detail and minimalist style. Also... his trunk was actually full of Doritos bags.

Anthony's USDM FD has one of the coolest and most difficult paints I've ever tried to photograph. Controlling reflections and bringing out the hues of Mazda's Montego blue pearl is a challenge that I usually overcome with compositing multiple images. With rolling shots this isn't an option, so we made good use of a few shaded backroads. Aside from the vented hood and classic spoiler, Anthony's RX-7 also sports a similar, but wider front bumper and fenders. The dark bronze wheels are also a nice subtle touch.
