B.R. Cars and Coffee

Baton Rouge, LA - It’s 7:30AM, and we’re steaming our faces over free coffee in little styrofoam cups while we wait for the sun to catch up. Yesterday I checked out the Cars and Coffee meet for the second time since moving to Louisiana. i’ll admit that in leaving Seattle’s population of 3.5 million for Baton Rouge’s 800 thousand, I had made some preconceptions that the car scene would also be much smaller. Clearly, these (one of many) monthly meets proved that my assumption was actually misconception. The event is hosted in the Mercedes -Benz of Baton Rouge overflow inventory lot, and sees an impressive range of vehicles each month.

Of, course since I’ve had a long-time affinity for the JDM scene, I tend to gravitate to the lone AE86, the cleanest EM Civic Si I’d ever seen, or my AP2 S2000 twin. However, everyone’s diverse stories of how they caught the auto enthusiast bug is really fascinating. For some it’s been a life long hobby passed down from a familiy member, along with an immaculate muscle car. Or maybe it’s their first car; and they originally purchased it just to attend LSU. Despite all the different origin stories, genres, budgets, and experiences, they all make it out to once a month to share stories and the free hot coffee.
