Mark's NSX - Illustration

Baton Rouge, LA - As much as I love cars and coffee events for the culture and people, cramped parking lots are some of the worst places for photography. Lighting and shadows are rarely ideal, and working around the crowds can get frustrating at times. And yet, what is there to do with those hard earned shots that you worked patiently to get?

Even before I attended design school at the University of Washington, I loved sketching with pencil, and illustrating on computer. When I got to college and then into the design industry, being able to illustrate and communicate concepts that didn’t exist yet became a core skill. I’m by no means a master, but Photoshop remained one of my favorite tools for making ideas into reality.

I love the new NSX, despite people’s complaints about cost, power plant, lack of flip-up lights, etc. It’s simply a beautifully sculpted car. So after snapping a couple shots of one at last weekend’s cars and coffee, I knew I needed to find an opportunity to use this. The night aesthetic of my childhood games like Need for Speed Underground still play a large role in my photographic style. I love the heavy shadows and highly saturated colors. So placing the NSX into some sort of high energy night scene made perfect sense. The NSX may be priced among super cars, but it’s roots and fan base comes from the import tuner scene.

This was a quick evening composite that I hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed making it. Check out the base images below.
