SEATTLE, WA - It was cold. It was raining, a lot. and Joanna was still willing to come light up some dark and dreary fall colored portraits. I met Joanna while we were both working on a photography certificate at the University of Washington. With Sara helping me out with lighting, we found a space sheltered by trees, that still had a decent view across Greenlake of fall leaves.

To make this angle work, I chose to use a 70-200 F4 by Sony to compress the backdrop and fill more of the frame with vivid color. We also used a custom white balance in camera, and a corresponding amber gel on the primary flash to exaggerate the cool colors of the environment. The warm tones in Joanna’s wardrobe, hair, and complexion pop on the cool environment surrounding.
