Wayne's Civic Type R

BELLEVUE, WA - It’s too expensive for a Civic. The styling is ugly. It’s FWD…
Everyone and their non-car-enthusiast mother has an option on Honda’s new performance offering. I had the opportunity recently to drive Wayne Yutani’s own specimen: #R-00842 and this car definitely has grown on me. When you get past the anime-crazy styling (which is completely functional) and take this hatch down some windy roads, the reason for the red badges becomes clear. In R+ Mode, the 2.0L turbo puts out over 300hp at 24psi… with ZERO understeer or torque-steer. It feels so intuitive and always seems ready to give a little more power, or turn a little tighter when asked.
In Comfort Mode it turns into a reasonable commuter. Shifting is effortless in general, but steering and suspension-feel soften in this mode. Seats have aggressive (and did I mention red) bolstering but are comfortable for long stretches, and if you remember to look backwards, this car has enough rear leg room and trunk space to compete with the crossover segment.
Driving this car over the weekend also gave me a chance to collaborate and reconnect with a few local photographers as well. Michael supplied his own CTR, making for some truely epic 600HP rolling shots! Check out gallery the links below for some truely talented Seattle photographers… and Tim.
